The Poison Centers provide a medical toxicological information service for advice on potential poisoning.
Cases of incongruous use or drug overdose, food poisoning and contamination with chemical and biological substances can be treated, with suggestions for patients and treating physicians regarding the treatment of the exposed patient.
Pursuant to the CLP Regulation (EC Reg. No. 1272/2008) companies that place dangerous mixtures on the market are obliged to transmit information on certain dangerous mixtures to the competent national bodies, so that poison centers can quickly provide medical advice in case of emergency.
Notifications must be submitted by importers and downstream users placing mixtures classified as physical or human health hazards on the market.
Annex VIII of the CLP Regulation defines the harmonized requirements for notifications of poison centers applicable from 1 January 2021. Each company must provide a real dossier in as many languages as there are member states in which the product is placed on the market, and notifications must be made exclusively through ECHA’s Poison Centers Notification Format (PCN), based on XML and compatible with IUCLID.
